About Madras University

The University of Madras is a public state university in Chennai (formerly Madras), Tamil Nadu, India. Established in 1857, it is one of the oldest and premier universities in India. The university was incorporated by an act of the Legislative Council of India. It is a collegiate research university and has six campuses in the city viz., Chepauk, Marina, Guindy, Taramani, Maduravoyal, and Chetpet. At present, there are 73 academic departments grouped under 18 schools, covering diverse areas such as sciences, social sciences, humanities, management and medicine along with 109 affiliated colleges and 52 approved research institutions.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council has conferred ‘five-star’ accreditation to the university and it has been given the status of ‘University with Potential for Excellence’ by the University Grants Commission. The University of Madras is the alma mater of two Indian Physics Nobel Laureates, including Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, five Presidents of India, including A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, and several notable mathematicians including Srinivasa Ramanujan.

Eligibility Criteria to get Admission in Madras University 

• Admissions to MBA and MCA are offered based on the candidate’s performance in TANCET conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education.
• Admission to M.SC except for M.SC(Photonics & Biophotonics/ Yoga) is offered by the performance of the candidate in the entrance exam conducted by the University.
• For MBA, M.Li.Sc Course, admission is done based on the marks in the qualifying exam.
• M.Phil & Ph.D. admissions are subject to university-based Written Test followed by an interview.

Application Process 

Step 1 – Candidate Registration

• Enter all the required basic details.
• A registration ID and password will be generated and will be sent to your mobile number.

Step 2 – Filling the online application form

• Log in with the Id and password and fill all the relevant details such as educational qualifications etc.

Step 3 – Uploading Photo & Signature 

• Upload scanned Photo and Signature as per the instructions.
• The size of the photo should be between 10KB to 200 KB.
• The size of the signature should be between 10KB to 200 KB.

Step 4 – Fee Payment

• Application fees should be paid through online mode i.e., net banking, credit card, debit card.

Madras University Admissions – Counselling – Required Documents

Candidates who will be qualified in the entrance exam will be called for the counselling. Counselling Dates will be announced by the University. The following documents have to be submitted by the university at the time of counselling.

• Entrance Exam Score Card or Qualifying Exam Marks List(Based on the Course Chosen by the candidate)
• Mark sheet of Class 10th as proof of date of birth
• Mark sheet of Class 12th or it is equivalent (if results are announced)
• Passport Size Photos(2 Nos)
• Photo ID proof (PAN, Aadhar, Passport) – Original for verification, Photocopy to be submitted.
