About National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Museology (NMIHACM)

The urgent need to initiate advanced studies in the areas of History of Art, Conservation and Museology has been discussed for years and the first step was taken in 1983, when diploma and postgraduate diploma courses in History of International and Modern Art and their Sources and Restoration of Oil paintings were initiated in National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi. In the year 1985, the program was shifted to National Museum and its scope was expanded to include the teaching of History of Art, covering both Ancient and Modern, Eastern and Western.

The following are the prime objectives of the Institute: –

Providing for various courses of study, training, and research in different branches of History of Art, Museology, Conservation, etc. & Providing academic guidance and leadership.
Collaborating with other national institutions dealing with cultural property, like the National Museum, Archaeological Survey of India, Anthropological Survey of India, National Gallery of Modern Art, National Archives of India and the like, in order to share the material, curatorial / technical expertise and facilities; Interacting on a continuing basis at the national level to improve standards of teaching in the above fields.

M.A. (History of Art): A Graduate Degree from a recognized University. Good academic record with minimum 50% marks or equivalent grade at the graduate level. A background in Social Sciences, Liberal Arts or Fine Arts.
Total Seats: 25 (Reservation as per Govt. of India rules)

M.A. (Conservation): A graduate degree from a recognized university in any of the following subjects: History, Geography, Anthropology, Archaeology or related disciplines with minimum 50% marks and 10+2 / Senior Secondary / Intermediate level education in science stream.
Total Seats: 15 (Reservation as per Govt. of India rules).

M.A. (Museology): B.A./B.Sc. (Honours) or B.A. / B.Sc. / B.F.A. (3 years) in any discipline under Humanities and Social Sciences / Science with 50% marks. A background / PG Diploma in subjects related to History of Art and Museum Studies.
