CBSE will conduct NET in 84 subjects at 91 selected NET Examination Cities spread across the country.  The candidates who qualify for the award of Junior Research Fellowship are eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject and are also eligible for Assistant Professor. The award of JRF and Eligibility for Assistant Professor or both only will depend on the performance of the candidate in all three papers of NET.

Latest Information: The UGC NET 2021 Exam will be conducted in the month of 6th Oct to 11th Oct 2021.

About

The National Eligibility Test (NET), also known as UGC NET or CBSE NET, is a test to determine eligibility for college and university level lecturership and for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals. It aims to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in teaching professions and research. On behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) holds the test for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility for Assistant Professor both in Indian universities and colleges.

UGC NET Junior Research Fellowship

On behalf of UGC, the Central Board of Secondary Education announces the National Eligibility Test (NET) in Oct 2021 for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship & Eligibility for Assistant Professor Both in Indian Universities and Colleges. The Universities, Institutions, IITs and other National Organizations may select the JRF awardees for whole time research work in accordance with the procedure prescribed by them.

CBSE will conduct NET in 84 subjects at 91 selected NET Examination Cities spread across the country. Candidates qualifying for the award of Junior Research Fellowship will be eligible to receive a fellowship of UGC under various schemes. The validity period of the offer is two years from the date of the issue of the JRF Award Letter.

Application form

The candidates who are interested in it should apply only through online mode. Candidates should apply by visiting the official website. The notification of UGC NET is released in the month of February and the starting of application through online mode is from 6th March. Adhar card is necessary to fill the application. The candidates should fill UGC Net application in 4 steps

  • pay the examination fee
  • print confirmation page

Candidates should apply on or before the last date. CBSE also provides the facility of correction of the application form which should be done from the 7th Sep to 11th Sep 2021.

Application Fee

There is an application fee for UGC NET which varies from the category. Every candidate should pay the examination fee to get the application successful. The application fee of general is 1000/-, for the OBC examination fee is 500/- and for SC/ST/PWD/Transgender application fee is 250/-.

Mode of Payment

The candidates may pay the examination fee either by credit/debit card or through e-challan generated at the time of the online filing of the application form. In the case of e-challan, the payment should be made in the Syndicate/Canara/ICICI Bank. In case the exam fee is paid by credit/debit card the additional processing charges as the following will also be debited from the credit/debit card of the candidate.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks in their Master’s degree examination from a UGC recognized college/ university are eligible for UGC NET 2020. Candidates who are appearing or awaiting results for their final year examination of Master’s degree are also can appear for 2020. It may be noted the minimum percentage required to meet UGC NET eligibility criteria for candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD categories is 50%.

Note for Ph.D. degree holders: Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s exams completed on September 19, 1991, will be eligible for a relaxation of 5% marks in the aggregate. This means that the minimum percentage required to meet UGC NET 2020 eligibility criteria for such candidates will be 50% instead of 55%.

Age limit

Not more than 30 years as of July 2020. A relaxation of five years is given to SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD and women candidates. The upper age limit for appearing in JRF has also been raised by two years, i.e. from the existing upper age limit of 28 years to 30 years (the relaxation as earlier will remain the same).
