The AIPMT exam used to consist of a single paper with 180 objective type questions from three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). The exam was conducted for a duration of 3 hours.
The subjects and their distribution of questions in the AIPMT exam are as follows:
- Physics: 45 questions
- Chemistry: 45 questions
- Biology (Botany and Zoology): 90 questions
Each question in the exam used to carry 4 marks and for every wrong answer, 1 mark was deducted.
The AIPMT exam used to cover topics from the Class 11 and 12 syllabus of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The exam aimed to test the candidate’s knowledge, comprehension, and problem-solving abilities in these subjects.

AIPMT 2023 Exam Duration, marks
The AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical Test) has been replaced by NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) for admission to undergraduate medical courses in India.
The duration of the NEET exam is 3 hours. The exam consists of 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) from the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). Each question carries 4 marks, and there is negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer. The total marks for the exam are 720.
It is important to note that the exam pattern and duration may change from time to time, and it is recommended to check the latest updates from the official website of the conducting authority.
AIPMT 2023 Negative Marking Scheme
AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical Test) was the former medical entrance exam in India that has now been replaced by the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). However, the negative marking scheme for both exams is the same.
In AIPMT and NEET, each correct answer carries 4 marks, while each incorrect answer results in a deduction of 1 mark. This means that for every wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted from the total score of the candidate.
Additionally, if a candidate marks more than one option as the answer to a particular question, even if one of the options is correct, then that answer is considered incorrect and will be penalized with a deduction of 1 mark.
However, unanswered questions are not penalized, and no marks are deducted for them. Therefore, if a candidate is not sure about the answer to a particular question, it is better to leave it unanswered instead of risking negative marks.
Overall, candidates must be careful while attempting the questions and try to minimize the number of incorrect answers to avoid losing marks due to negative marking.
