UPSC mains language optional paper Bengali is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in the Indian Subcontinent. People in some eastern and north-eastern states of the Republic of India, including West Bengal, Tripura, Assam (Barak Valley) and Andaman and Nicobar Islands mainly choose Bengali as their optional subject in UPSC. If one is really good in the Bengali language and has control over it he can surely score good marks in the subject. Students should have good writing skills if they choose language subjects as optional. Any aspirant with no prior knowledge of the Bengali language should not opt for it. He/She may score well in Paper I which is like general studies but Paper-II becomes the eliminating factor if it is not covered exhaustively.
