About Joint Entrance Examination

Joint Entrance Examination will be conducted by CBSE for admission to B.E./B.Tech & B.Arch courses. On the basis of JEE Main, candidates are admitted to NITs, CFTIs, and other engineering institutions. JEE Main 2026 is the entrance test for admissions into NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. JEE Advanced is considered an international Examination as one of the most challenging undergraduate admission tests. Only the students selected in JEE Mains are eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced. About 220,000 students are selected each year.

JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Main is an entrance examination conducted in India for admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture programs at various prestigious institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and other centrally funded technical institutions.

Here are some key points about JEE Mains:

  1. Exam Pattern: JEE Main consists of two papers: Paper 1 for admission to engineering programs and Paper 2 for admission to architecture programs. Paper 1 includes multiple-choice questions (MCQs) from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Paper 2 involves Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing sections.
  2. Mode of Examination: JEE Main is conducted in both online (Computer-Based Test) and offline (Pen and Paper) modes. The choice of mode is up to the candidate, except for certain centers where only one mode is available.
  3. Eligibility: Candidates who have passed their 10+2 examination or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects are eligible to appear for JEE Main. Additionally, candidates must have secured at least 75% marks (65% for reserved categories) or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards.
  4. Frequency: Until 2020, JEE Main was conducted twice a year (January and April). However, starting from 2021, it is being conducted four times a year, in February, March, April, and May.
  5. Ranking and Admission: The ranks obtained in JEE Main are used for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes). Additionally, JEE Main serves as a qualifying examination for JEE Advanced, which is required for admission to the IITs.
  6. Normalization Process: Since JEE Main is conducted in multiple shifts and sessions, a normalization process is used to ensure fairness. The scores are normalized to account for variations in the difficulty level across different shifts.
  7. Syllabus: The JEE Main syllabus is based on the 10+2 curriculum of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and various state boards.

JEE Mains Courses

JEE Main is primarily conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering programs (B.Tech./B.E.) offered by various institutes in India. The courses offered through JEE Main include:

  1. Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.): This is the most common undergraduate engineering program offered by institutes participating in JEE Main. It covers various disciplines of engineering, such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, etc.
  2. Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.): The B.E. program is similar to B.Tech. and offers similar disciplines of engineering. The distinction between B.Tech. and B.E. programs varies across institutions, but the curriculum and career prospects are usually similar.
  3. Integrated Dual Degree Programs (B.Tech. + M.Tech.): Some institutes also offer integrated dual degree programs where students can pursue a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree along with a Master of Technology (M.Tech.) degree. These programs are usually of a longer duration (5 years or more) and provide an opportunity to specialize in a specific field.
  4. Architecture Programs: JEE Main also conducts the Paper 2 examination for admission to undergraduate architecture programs. The courses offered include Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) or Bachelor of Planning (B.Plan.) programs.
