The National Eligibility Test (NET), also known as UGC NET or CBSE NET, is a test to determine eligibility for college and university level lectureship and for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals. It aims to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in teaching professions and research. On behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) holds the test for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility for Assistant Professor both in Indian universities and colleges.

UGC NET Exam Dates 2025

The official notification for UGC NET 2023 is released in Official website. The last date to submit the application is 23 January 2023(December session). The UGC NET December session exam will be conducted on 21 February to 15 March 2023. National Testing Agency will be conducting the University Grants Commission National Entrance Test for admission to B. Tech professional courses.

UGC NET 2025 Eligibility Criteria

  • Completed master’s degree from a recognized college is eligible for UGC NET.
  • Minimum 55% marks for general candidates and 50% marks for ST/SC candidates.
  • Final years candidates are also eligible for UGC NET.
  • For OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PWD Category, there’ll be the 5-year relaxation.

Age Limit

The age limit for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) is 31 years, while there is no upper age limit for the Assistant Professor post.
